Ripped from the Pages: Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1)

Beautiful Creatures

There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.

At least, that’s what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

My Thoughts:

When I saw the trailer for this a few months back, I was like Meh, it looks OK. I just feel like Hollywood is looking for that next big Twilight hit. Truth be told, I really only liked the first Twilight and Breaking Dawn: 1 & 2. I wasn’t too messed up about the others in between. My main problem was with the makeup. It was GHASTLY. Seriously, what was up with the crazy white makeup and crazed contact lens look. I mean I know vamps are supposed to be dead but can they look at least halfway decent at the same time.

Need I say more. Ummm no. He looks all kinds of crazy. Yall know I’m telling the truth. Just keeping it real.

OK let me get back on track. Well, I saw the Beautiful Creatures trailer a few times again and I still didn’t know what the heck the movie was about. Finally a longer trailer was shown during Once Upon A Time on ABC and I was like “Wow, Now I get the story.” Basically Lena Duchannes is a “caster,” which is a witch. When she turns 16, her powers will be claimed for either the light or the dark. Of course, there’s a romance story thrown in there. The movie includes heavy hitters Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons, and Academy Award nominees Viola Davis and Emma Thompson.

It looks like a solid film. So I will definitely be seeing it when it premieres on February 13. I may even read Beautiful Creatures before I check out the film. There are a total of four books in the Beautiful Creatures series.

Here’s a clip of the film:
